Two things that the actual consumer doesn't care about as much. Instead, they're trying to sell themselves, or services. If they want to sell consoles, then they have to show why the console is worth buying. That kind of talk is irrelevant to the average console gamer, and doesnt build confidence. It's like they're under the impression that the old Bill Gates adage of not selling what people want, but what you want to sell them, is going to go over well with a vocal community that is able to see through the BS given enough time. There is too much against them for them to have success if they keep trying to separate themselves from the market and go their own way. What they needed to do was show why people should get excited for the XSX. Discounting the halo demo, and the talking, and a few other minor things, I enjoyed the show well enough.īut a lot was riding on this show, and ms failed to deliver what they needed to at this point. I would only do that on games that I'm playing purely for competitive reasons. On consoles, though, in most games I'm unwilling to deal with crappier visuals in order to get higher framerates. It doesn't matter on PC because I can get the higher framerates and the ultra quality graphics at the same time. My other problem with it is that even though I prefer higher framerates I don't want to trade visual quality for higher framerates in most games. This will hold back games in certain aspects of their design similar to how being cross-generation can hold back games. This means that achieving a consistent 60fps mode in games will require games to be built around achieving that target. Generally speaking, doubling resolution is less demanding than doubling framerate, but different aspects of each game hit cpu, gpu and memory differently and reach bottlenecks at different points. You can't merely drop the resolution and expect to hit 60fps in every game. First, the relationship between resolution and framerate doesn't scale consistently the way many people imagine it. I would rather the baseline of visuals be pushed as far as possible and then have the PC as an option for those that want higher framerates.Īs far as the idea that every game should have a 30fps quality mode and then a 60fps smooth mode, I have a couple of concerns with that.
